FAQ

Here you will find answers to common questions.

  • What can I do if my roof box looks dull?

A roof box requires care, just like your car. Washing and polishing are needed if you want a shiny surface. If your roof box looks dull, it should be rubbed down/machine-polished before buffing.

  • What is covered by the warranty?

Packline now offers a 10-year warranty on its fibreglass boxes in the FX and X series. The F series comes with a 5-year warranty. This warranty covers all manufacturing defects.

The X series comes with a 2-year warranty on the decor film.

Although we have been producing some of these models for many years, we have always conducted product development and are constantly striving to deliver a better product. Which is why we have been able to extend the warranty period on our boxes. The warranty does not have retroactive effect. In other words, it is the warranty on the date of purchase that applies.

If the box has been subjected to extreme external stress, such as extreme weather, this will not be covered by the warranty. In this case you will have to go through your insurer.

  • How fast can I drive with my roof box?

In principle, there is no limit on speed, but it is important to remember that putting a roof box on a car changes its road holding. The effect is felt more at higher speeds. As fibreglass roof boxes are stronger and more rigid than plastic boxes, they will also cope with higher speeds better.

  • My gas struts are no longer working.

Contact us, as there are versions with different lengths and pressures.

  • Which fixings are most suitable for my roof bars?

iZi2connect quick-fit mountings come with all new universal roof boxes and are the fastest, easiest way to attach a roof box. They are simple, sturdy fixings that fit most bars as long as they are no more than 5 cm wide. In which case the Box Kit (U fixings) should be used. This comes as standard with the FX-210 and FX-222 tunnel boxes. If you have aluminium bars with a sliding bar, iZi2fit is the best alternative. Square head bolts are attached to the aluminium bars’ sliding bar and then inserted through the box’s slot track. Solid, rubberised washers/plates are put in between inside the box before tightening with a thumb wheel. This provides virtually invisible mounting. All our fittings have been tested and conform to the City Crash standard.

  • What happens to the aerial/roof fin when I fit a roof box?

There is a groove in the box designed for a roof fin or aerial.

  • My roof bars are too wide for the fittings that come with the roof box. How should I attach the box?

In the case of roof bars that are more than 5 cm wide either the Box Kit or iZi2fit should be used. The Box Kit comes as standard with the FX210 and FX222 tunnel boxes.

  • Will iZi2Connect fit my roof box?

If your roof bars are less than 5 cm wide, iZi2Connect can be used. In the case of wider roof bars iZi2fit or our Box Kit should be used.

  • Is it possible to get boxes with your own design?

Packline’s X series is a range of roof boxes offering unique design. Eight different versions are currently available, but new ones are being added all the time.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to get full-wrap custom designs, but we can assist with custom decals on self-coloured boxes if required.

It is also possible to get the FX series with a full paint job in the colour of your car, while the top on the Elegance and Avantgarde can be painted.

  • Can a car with a roof box be taken through a car wash?

Unless it is clearly stated that the wash programme can handle cars with a roof box, you should ask the staff where you want to wash the car.

  • What type of roof bars would be best?

The best type of roof bars depends on what sort of roof fixings you have on your car. We recommend bars made by Whispbar or Thule. Both these manufacturers have good guides to choosing roof bars on their websites. Visit www.whispbar.no and www.thule.com.

  • What type of roof box is most suitable for my car?

Which roof box is most suitable depends of the length of the roof, the roof fixings and the roof bars. Cars with a shorter roof, or a rear hatch that includes part of the roof, are best suited to roof boxes measuring 210 cm in length. Roof bars that stick up a long way above the roof are best with a tunnel box, while low bars should be used with a universal roof box. Look at our car lists to see what we recommend and check out our picture gallery for examples.  You can contact us or a dealer if necessary.

  • How high will my car be with a roof box? How far will the roof box stick up above the roof?

The overall height will depend on the type of roof bars used on your car. In very general terms, we can say that the tunnel boxes (FX-210 and FX-222/FX-222D, FX-SUV and FX-OFFROAD) stick up approx. 25 cm above the top of the roof bars. The plastic boxes and Original models stick up approx. 30 cm. You will find the height of your car in the vehicle registration certificate. Remember to add a good margin.

  • Can I take the roof box off my old car and use it on my new one?

All our roof boxes are universal apart from the FX-210, FX-222 and FX-222D tunnel boxes. Boxes of the universal type can be moved to most models of car. If the box is what is called a tunnel box, there is less chance that it will fit other models, as tunnel boxes are tailored to the car/roof bars to a large extent. If you are unsure, please contact us.

  • Where can I buy a Packline roof box? Who is my local dealer?
